Direct Line’s commitment to accessibility for all
Direct Line has built this site to be accessible and usable to as many people as possible. This website is designed and built with full consideration of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) as part of their Web Accessibility Initiative.
Our aim is for the whole site to be to the highest WCAG standards. Accordingly this website aims to facilitate equal access to people with disabilities using technologies other than standard web browsers, such as screen readers.
Here are some straight-forward website accessibility guides that can enable you to:
- Understand our browser compatibility
- Utilise navigational aids
- Make this site talk
- Change the stylesheets
- Change the size of the text
- Reporting accessibility problems
Our sites fully utilise CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to separate content from presentation, reducing file sizes and increasing download speeds. Most images have been regulated to the CSS document and where possible text alternatives for graphical content have been provided.
All pages of the site are navigable with the keyboard, mouse, and other assistive devises such as BrowseAloud.
Make this site talk
This Direct Line site supports BrowseAloud which is free to website visitors and allows them to listen to this website and can be easily downloaded.
You can import your own style sheet onto this website for your ease of access. This can be done in Internet Explorer by following these steps:
select ‘Internet Options’
select the ‘Accessibility’ button
chose the corresponding checkboxes to ignore the font sizes, font styles and ignore colours
then to use your style sheet, whilst in the same window, select the checkbox ‘Format document using my style sheet’
finally select your style sheet and select ‘OK’
[Note that from stage 3 you can alternatively simply chose to ignore the site’s colours, fonts and text sizes].
To quickly adjust the size of the text follow these steps in Internet Explorer:
then select ‘Text Size’
then chose your preferred text size
We always aim to make the site as accessibly to as many people as possible, but if you experience any specific difficulties with our pages, please do contact us and we will try to provide you with the information that you need.
Please note that Direct Line supports the TextRelay service for people with communication difficulties. To use TextType, you will need to prefix the number 18001 before the number you wish to dial. To make a call: dial 18001 + number
