We aim to make Direct Line Pet Insurance the cheapest we can, with a range of deals and discounts for our customers. If you’re on a budget, then investing in pet insurance may seem a bit extravagant, especially if you have other policies to pay for such as car or home insurance. But protecting your pet with adequate cover makes good economic sense when you consider the cost of unexpected vets’ fees. To help you out, we’ve designed our Pet Insurance to offer you the best value rates we can. We also offer extra discounts and include a range of flexible cover options so that you can choose the level that suits your needs – and your bank balance.

Our Pet Insurance is available for all dogs and cats that are resident in the UK, and aged between eight weeks and nine years (six years for some breeds – check the policy document online) and, in the case of dogs, they must not be working or termed as dangerous dogs under our terms and conditions, which you can find on the policy document.

We offer two types of policy for your dog or cat: Essential and Advanced, both of which cover vets’ fees but at different levels.

Our Essential pet insurance policy covers vets’ fees for treatment of each illness, injury or disease, up to a limit of £4,000 per condition and to a maximum of 12 months.

Our Advanced pet insurance policy covers vets’ fees up to £6,000 per condition, with no time limit on treatment.

Three helplines – Vet Helpline, Pet Bereavement and Legal Advice – are included whichever level of cover you choose.

You can then choose to add on cover for the following:

  • Advertising and reward if your dog or cat strays, gets lost or is stolen (Advertising up to £1,000 & reward up to £200)
  • Reimbursement of dog or cat purchase price, if you lose your pet through theft, straying or death due to accidental injury (up to £1,500)
  • Kennel or cattery costs, if you have to go into hospital for more than four days (up to £1,000), and
  • Holiday cancellation cover due to loss, illness or injury of your pet (up to £5,000).

We also offer up to £2 million Third Party Liability cover for dogs, which includes legal liability should your pet cause injury to another person or damage their property.
Overseas Travel Cover is another option if you and your dog or cat travel to countries included in the Government’s Pet Travel Scheme. This includes quarantine costs, loss of pet passport, repeat tick and worming treatment, and emergency expenses while abroad. You simply pick and choose what to add on, depending on what you require and what you can afford.
