Delicious and safe homemade dog food recipes

We know that one in five pet owners worry about whether they are feeding their dogs the right things. That’s why we have teamed up with Vet of the Year, Marc Abraham, to create four tasty but simple dog-friendly recipes.

Tropical chicken salad

2 cups chicken, cooked and cut in to cubes (remove all bones and skin)

½ pineapple, cubed in natural juice

¾ cup melon, cubed, pips removed

¾ cup fresh mango cubed

½ cup natural yogurt

Mix together in a bowl and serve.

Cheese and kale frittata

1 cup chopped kale

100g halved cherry tomatoes

4 eggs

½ pint milk

100g cheese

1 sprig of fresh rosemary, finely chopped

1 tbsp grated parmesan cheese

Mix together in a bowl. Pour into an oven-proof flan dish and grate some parmesan on top.

Place into a hot oven (210 degrees C) for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool before serving.

Raspberry muffins

¼ cup flax meal or milled flax

¼ cup wheatgerm

¼ cup nutritional yeast

½ cup dried or fresh raspberries

1 tbsp kelp powder (leave this out if your dog is on any thyroid treatment)

2 large free-range eggs

½ cup natural yogurt

1 tbsp olive oil

Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Spoon into a muffin tray and place into an oven at 180 degrees C for 20 minutes.

Cool down to room temperature before giving to your dog.

Sweet potato and white fish bake

4 white fish fillets of your choice cut into bite sized chunks e.g. coley

1 large sweet potato cut into 1 inch cubes and par boiled

2 heads fresh fennel, chopped

1 tin of chopped tomatoes

8 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

Place the fish chunks evenly on a baking tray. Scatter the sweet potato around the fish and the chopped fennel on top. Pour the chopped tinned tomatoes over the top and drizzle with the olive oil.

Place into an oven at 180 degrees C for 20 minutes.

Cool down to room temperature before giving to your dog.
