Car insurance - Tips & Advice - Car Insurance for young drivers
You’ve passed your driving test and become a new driver. Congratulations! It’s a very exciting time, but where do you go from here? Whether you have wheels of your own or are hoping to borrow a car belonging to your parents/siblings/friends, it’s absolutely essential that you have adequate insurance when you’re on the road.
Unfortunately, insuring a car for a new driver is an expensive business, particularly if you’re young, as insurers can be reluctant to ensure you. Recent UK Department for Transport statistics show that as many as one in five new drivers (often passing their test at the minimum age) have an accident during their first year on the roads and this means that if you fall into this category then some insurers can be reluctant to insure you. But don’t despair, Direct Line doesn’t believe in penalising new drivers unduly; what it does believe in is encouraging everyone to drive more safely and responsibly.
With Direct Line’s new, improved car insurance, we’ve become the first major direct insurer in the UK to offer named driver no claims discount, which means that younger new drivers can be named on their parents’ policy for Direct Line car insurance and build up a no claims history of their own. When they want to start their own policy, we’ll automatically take into account every year that they haven’t made a claim as a named driver. Direct Line’s new, improved car insurance is well worth having.
Safer driving for new drivers is in everyone’s interest – if you accumulate six penalty points or more within your first two years of driving your full licence can be revoked and you can be returned to learner status (it could also have an affect on your insurance premiums). That’s why Direct Line encourages new drivers to take a Pass Plus course or even the Advanced Driving Test, which will save you money on your car insurance.
So if you’re a new driver, get a quote from Direct Line and see what we have to offer.
