How much you pay for your life insurance premium depends on a number of factors. Because these factors relate to your life expectancy, they automatically include issues of health. Although some things such as family medical history are out of your hands, how well you’ve looked after yourself can help to keep your premium down when you apply for a Direct Line Life Insurance quote…

To make your Direct Line Life Insurance premium as fair as possible, it is worked out in taking into account your personal circumstances. The factors we use to work your premium out include age, sex, health and smoker status. In the health category, this includes height, weight, medical history, lifestyle and health experience.

Apply for a quote online and you’ll see that the questions we ask are quite straightforward. From the types of questions we ask, you can see that there are parts of your lifestyle you can control what could impact on the level of Life Insurance premium you would receive. You certainly score points by not smoking at all, but giving up smoking is a step in the right direction. For example cheaper premiums are available for ex-smokers who have given up smoking for at least 13 months. How much you drink is also within your control, as is likely to be your weight.

Once you have answered all your questions accurately, we can provide a premium. With our competitive rates, this can be from as little as just £6 a month depending on your age and personal situation. Depending on the information you provide, we may need to clarify some details with you before we can process a quote; if we need to do this we ask that you give us a quick call. It should only take five minutes on the phone. In some cases we may request a medical or doctor’s report – we can help arrange this.

With Direct Line Fixed Term Life Insurance and Life Mortgage Cover, you choose the level of cover you require at the start. If by the end of the policy term you have not made a claim, the policy ends and nothing is paid out. Your Direct Line Life Insurance provides protection in the event of your death or terminal illness. Terminal Illness is an advanced or rapidly progressing incurable illness where, in the opinion of an attending Consultant and our Chief Medical Officer, the life expectancy is no greater than 12 months. In the event of terminal illness the sum assured may be made early if you tell us about it at least 18 months before the end of the policy term and subject to terms and conditions. This could help you and your loved ones out.

Direct Line also provide a policy that includes critical illness protection. Life and critical illness cover pays out a lump sum if you either die or are diagnosed with a critical illness that meets our policy definition. We only cover the critical illnesses we define in our policy and no others.  For full details, you can check out the critical illness policy document.

You can take out Direct Line Life Insurance at any time between the ages of 17 and 64. If you have family or dependents, you may wish to consider applying for life cover to help protect them if the worst should happen, and give you piece of mind.
