The Homebuilding & Renovating Show, which focuses on self-build, renovation, conversion and home improvement, covers every aspect from planning to bespoke work. EDF Energy Ideal Home Show, Earls Court, London

The first of these home exhibitions was held at Olympia in 1908 and the show has been running ever since. This year’s themes are Save Money, Save Energy and Save Space. Expect the classic Ideal Home Show mix of expert tips, inspiring show houses, interiors, exteriors and product ideas, with exhibitors ranging from beanbag retailers to lifestyle magazines and eco products.

Scottish Home Improvement & Self Build Show, Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh
3-4 October 2009
Now in its fourth year, the Scottish Home Improvement & Self Build Show attracts up to 8,000 visitors. Located next to Edinburgh airport, it is easy for visitors travelling by air. Exhibitors are from all over Britain and there are live demos, free seminars and experts to advise on everything from conversions and extensions to outdoor projects.
