Renewable energy in Brazil

This project uses a by-product from sugar-cane production (bagasse) to generate electricity.

How it works

The sugar-cane mill has invested to increase the efficiency of sugar and alcohol production, while also boosting the efficiency of burning bagasse. The system relies on modern turbo generators and pressure boilers

The mill transfers the electricity it produces to the Brazilian national grid. This reduces the need for energy produced by fossil-fuelled power plants, at the same time reducing CO2 emissions.
